Retailing is all sales activities of goods and services directly to final consumers for personal and household use, not for business purposes.

The four main functions of retailing: buying and storing goods, transfer of property to the final consumer goods, provide information regarding the nature and use of the goods, and give credit to the consumer (in certain cases).

Classification retailing: Retailing can be classified according to five criteria, namely the type of ownership, products or services sold, non-store retailing, pricing strategies, and location.

7R Strategy: To successful retail business, which required the implementation of the strategy consists 7R right product / merchandise, right price, right quantity, right place, right time, right services, and the right appeals / promotions.

Retail Communication: Communication with customers is not always retailer with
mass media but through visual images, lay out and display in-store products.

Visual communication is a retail company or store communications with their customers through the physical form, such as the identity store, lay out and display as well as in-store communication. By applying visual communication as a whole, will improve or add to the store image
better in the eyes of consumers.

Lay Out: Lay out a mapping of the area is designed as a place to sell a product to help consumers shop and search for items to be purchased. The purpose of the lay out is to bring products to consumers that are in place and the right amount, for the convenience or ease of obtaining the product, and for the efficiency and effectiveness of existing space, the grouping based on group and sub group. Visual merchandising is a combination of design elements of the store environment, merchandise presentation, and communication within the store.

The purpose of visual merchandising: attract attention, highlighting one product quality, won the competition in attracting consumer attention, dramatize an impression, to stimulate consumer interest to read the whole message, and clarify a statement.

Wholesaling: wholesaling are all activities to sell products in large quantities to non-consumer buyers end for the purpose of resale or for business use.

Companies that perform wholesaling activities is called the wholesaler (distributor, jobber). Broadly speaking, the wholesaler can be grouped into three categories, namely merchant wholesalers, brokers and agents, as well as the headquarters and branch offices producers.

Goods distribution channels to distinguish between property rights and transfer channels to physically move the goods. If the former is related to the distribution channel (channel of distribution), the latter are activities which are called the physical distribution (physical distribution).

Physical distribution are all activities to move the goods in certain quantities, to a certain place, and within a certain period. Companies that assist in the physical distribution process is called facilitator or facilitating agencies. Facilitator may include transportation companies, insurance companies, the company that rented warehouse (public and private warehouse), finance companies, and so forth. It should be noted that the facilitator is not a member in a distribution channel.
