Planning warehouse layout to facilitate of Prosses FIFO

Bookmark and Share
In planning the layout of the warehouse, the product should be placed in specific locations called slots in order to facilitate the search or control of goods, slot based on the characteristics of each product to be stored. Things to consider in making the slot is Product Velocity (Speed product circulation, associated with FIFO), Weight of goods and special storage requirements for certain goods in accordance with its characteristics. Products Velocity  became a major factor in the design of  warehouse layout. High Velocity product should be positioned to reduce the distance of movement of goods. For example product fast moving / high velocity must be near the door, or main hall, and at lower levels in the storage shelves. Position so as to minimize the warehouse handling and reduces the frequency of lifting requirements.

Conversely, products with low volumes are usually placed further away from the primary site, corridor or a higher position in the storage rack. besides the storage plan should also consider the weight and characteristics of specific products. general heavy items should be placed on a low storage locations to minimize lifting. for goods "bulky" goods with low density requires a cubic space. Outdoor floor along the wall is ideal for such goods (bulky). On the other hand, small items may require storage shelves. Besides the integrated storage plan must consider the individual characteristics of the product.
As for controlling the amount of goods and facilitate in ordering goods inventory system should be built control without forgetting the physical check and inventory taking to maintain its data so that data and there is no physical difference (Operating System Warehouse) in inventory management there are several methods that can be used :
The most widely used method is the Perpetual Review, while the other method is the periodic review
Perpetual Review / also called continuous review. Continuous review of this will always see the status of inventory as the basis for replenishment. in using this method required tracking all SKU ( Stock Keeping Unit ) . This method is implemented through the reorder point and order quantity.

The formula ROP :  = D x T + SS

ROP : Re Order Point (in Units)
D : Average Daily Demand (In Units)
Q : Average performance cycle length (In days)
SS : Safety or buffer stock in the unit
As for determining the amount in order to use the method Economic Order Quantity (EOQ)

I am not good in formula but yours is easy to understand. I am going to apply this one in planning the warehouse layout. The layout is the best way to facilitate the process FIFO successfully.
